Behind the Curtain with Nikki E. Walker

by Chad Kinsman, Artistic & Management Coordinator

Full Given Name: Nikki E. Walker

Hometown: Bronx New York

Why you love Intimate Apparel: I love Intimate Apparel  because Lynn Nottage wrote a play that makes me feel closer to my ancestors. And she wrote the most amazing role for women. Esther helped me be a better woman and artist.

First time on stage: At 12 I played Argan in Moliere's Imaginary Invalid. They couldn't find a boy to play him, so they asked me. It was so much fun, but my proudest moment was after when people were asking me to show them the guy who played Argan. That's when I felt I could be and do anything.

Biggest onstage disaster: I don't think I have experienced disasters onstage. It always feels magical and healing. Even when surprises happen, it's always fun and works out beautifully.

Favorite moment on stage: Always right before the curtain goes up. I have hard core stage fright and that moment it's so intense. But the curtain rises and a rush of peace comes over me. It's incredible.

Dream role you’ve not performed yet: My next role is the dream role. Every role brings me closer to being the artist I dream to become.

Book on your nightstand: I have 2 books on my night stand. The Alchemist and The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity. Such great books.

Last great movie you saw: Last night I watched Annie Hall again. It's always a great one. I love classics.

Guilty pleasure: Quaker Cheddar Rice Cakes. Love them to bits. LOL.

Best piece of advice you’ve received: The best advice was from my Mom, "Do what you love and the money will follow," and "Don't worry, tomorrow always takes care of itself."
