Celebrate #GivingTuesday with your Playhouse

November 19, 2012

Every family has its own holiday traditions.  Whether you’re waking at 4 am to put a carefully-brined turkey in the oven, or ordering take out from in front of a football game, chances are you will take a moment to pause this Thanksgiving and remember the many things for which you are grateful.
Thanksgiving is traditionally the start of the holiday season, and in addition to eating too much stuffing, most of us will also take time this weekend to start giving back to those we love.  If – like me – you avoid the crush of holiday shoppers by purchasing your gifts online, you can remember the theater lovers in your life on Cyber Monday, by purchasing a 5-Play 2013 Season Subscription for as low as $100.
If your holiday spending includes charitable giving, then we hope you will also remember the Playhouse.  On November 27, the Playhouse will partner in the first-of-its-kind national effort to celebrate philanthropy and the giving season. Taking place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving,  #GivingTuesday is harnessing the power of social media to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.
Donations received by the Playhouse during #GivingTuesday will be used to fund the Playhouse’s five-play season of “Theater Worth Talking About” productions; student matinees, serving 3,000 youth every year; educator workshops that are free to the region’s teachers; Together at the Table Family Dinners (productions plus dinner, all for $10 for each family member); and symposia, talkbacks, and literary salons, open to the public free-of-charge to enrich the theater-going experience.
Gifts made in honor or in memory of others will be recognized with a special card to the recipient.
As we count our many blessings in the coming days, I hope you’ll join me in celebrating all that live theater brings to our region.  And I hope that you’ll help us continue sharing this gift with everyone in the community by making a donation today.

With gratitude,

-Kathryn Gloor
